Hands of a Wanderer is a craft-based practice by Amaal Younes, a multidisciplinary creative born in Cairo, Egypt and now based in Washington, DC. Rooted in slow making, storytelling, and care, this project explores the emotional and cultural weight carried by handmade objects.

Trained in graphic, product, and media design at the German University in Cairo, Amaal’s work is shaped by a deep love for materials, process, and craftsmanship. In 2017, she co-founded Grain Studio, a bookbinding and craft initiative that grew into a community-centered workshop supporting collaborative making and traditional handwork.

Hands of a Wanderer is a continuation of this path — a space for personal exploration through objects made by hand, often in small batches, using thoughtful and intentional processes. Each piece reflects a relationship between maker, material, and story, inviting slowness, use, and presence.

Through journals, functional objects, and future collections, the project considers craft as a form of wandering: across places, memories, and moments of belonging.
